In this case it was a maginificent bronze sculpture of Yogi Ramsuratkumar, above twelve inches
high, Seated in the cross-legged position with hands cupped around a cigarette,
shawls and rags hanging in graceful folds-a familiar posture of the beggar.
Sculpted by one of Lee’s student at his request, as a piece of art alone it was
an extraordinary gift; its sacred nature as a Vigraha of the master gave it
power in a multitude of dimensions.

Lee was itching to present the gift to his master, but in the first darshan
that morning Yogi Ramsuratkumar said nothing. Near the end of the afternoon the
heavy statue all the way from Arizon himself, and now he approached the dais
and with it securely packed in its box. The photographers got wind that
something important was about to happen and came to snap pictures. Lee had
gotten permission from Yogi Ramsuratkumar to bring Francois Fronty ( CC
Krishna, who released DVD about Yogiramsuratkumar) a disciple of the French
teacher Arnaud Desjardins and professional filmmaker who wanted to make a film
about Yogi Ramsuratkumar called Darshan Francois was there with his camera
rolling.
|
|
Quickly Lee hefted the box up and ripped the wrapping off, then lifted the
sculpture out of his packing material and handed it immediately to Yogi
Ramsuratkumar. The whole unveiling took only a few seconds. There was no pomp
and circumstance, no ceremony and self-importance just the pure giving. Lee
sat back and watched as Yogi Ramsuratkumar took the sculpture firmly in to his
hands. His face moved into an expression of undisguised wonder. It was an
incredibly beautiful thing to look at.
|
|
Yogi Ramsuratkumar held the statue in his lap so that the front of it faced
outward towards the cameras. The video tape was rolling and captured for
posterity the gasp of wonder and comments from several people who sat nearby
and saw the chest of the statue glow with a rose red light, as if it lit from
within, while Yogi Ramsuratkumar held it.
|
|
Finally the master said, This beggar will accept this . As the Yogi examined
the sculpture, he showed it to Ma Devaki and Sudama sisters. Their attention
soon focused on the amazing details of the hand and feet. Which are by far the
most stunning and accurately rendered aspect of beggar’s form in bronze.

The toes even bore the scars of the train incident so many years before, when
in a fit of divine madness Yogi Ramsuratkumar had frozen on the train tracks
while a train ran over his toes. The hands were utterly exquisite, cupped
around a cigarette a reminder of the tremendous sacrifice of the beggar and
the power of grace that flowed through him. Ma Devaki and the sudama sisters
craned their necks to see more of the statue and murmured appreciative sounds.
It was an impressive rendering of the God Child of Tiruvannamalai. Later Yogi
Ramsuratkumar gave a statue to Mani and Raji as a gift.
|
|
A month later when the video was played back in Arizona, Lee said, "Now we’ll
see if the statue really did glow red, or whether we just imagined it.
Amazingly, the red light was unmistakably captured on the video. It could be
clearly seen, emanating for a few moments from the heart of the statue the
living force of the beggar saint entering into the vigraha.
