Article translated and republished from LE MAITRE SPIRITUEL

Born in Brooklyn (New York) on November 18, 1943, Mr. Lee was discovered by Yvan Amar and revealed by Gilles Farcet in his book the man rises to the West. Lee Lozowick grew within a plain and cordial family where one exchanged intelligent remarks and all in smoothness. Very marked by its father, Louis Lozowick (a painter whose Metropolitan of New York has several fabrics), Lee readily depicts it like a very wise and spiritual man although it was affiliated with no Church, nor did not claim any creed or system. One day when the Lee young person challenged his father concerning divine and what it thought of God, his father answered him: In this field, it is with each one to come to its own conclusions. It refused of him to say which were its convictions.

But little by little, with the age and maturity, Lee will bore up to date the depth of the spiritual life of his/her father, by observing it and by looking at it living.

After a short university course to become chemical engineer, Lee Lozowick chooses commercial studies. Graduate, it will never use his competences on the labour market, except selling stamps of collection. Towards the 20 years age, it is interested passionately in a course of personal development called the silva mind control. Extremely of this training, it is committed truly studying this method and leaves to follow a formation to Texas, before returning to teach it in the New Jersey. After several years of teaching of this technique and after reflexion, it decides to stop it because it perceives of them not only the advantages but also the limits.

In July 1975, Lee Lozowick was a prosperous businessman, of about thirty years, living in the New Jersey, where it continued a spiritual life and taught the meditation. One morning, after one night extraordinary and major of prayer invoker, it woke up to be discovered under a condition that a certain number of spiritual traditions call “awakening” or “realization” with the mystical and traditional direction of the term. It then takes conscience beyond the illusions of the true nature of reality. II discovers an unchanged state of consciousness. Not only it is maintained, but it develops. On this subject, Mr. Lee agrees readily for saying that there are no limits with the development of this state of consciousness and that makes the awakening of it constitutes the beginning of the true human evolution. After this radical interior transformation, pupils who had studied the meditation with him for a certain time gathered around him and became its first disciples. Hohm community had just been born, but they are only in 1980 that it is established, in the north of the desert of Sonoran, meadows of Prescott in Arizona.
It is in 1970 that it meets, in India, that which it designates as its spiritual Master: Ramsuratkhumar yogi (see bibliography). At the beginning, this one does not seem to attach least importance to receive this young American, very determined, who makes the foot of crane in front of his door. It is only in 1976 that it will accomodate Lee with opened arms, making it sit down beside him permanently during its stay, as a sign of recognition and blessing.
Lee Lozowick uses all the aspects of the life, rock' N roll to the theatre and art while passing by an education conscious of the children, a regular practice of the meditation and a diet vegetarian, regarding them as the vital elements of a spiritual discipline. Lee works with his pupils in the most current details of the environment of the community in order to create a culture able to express a certain maturity of spiritual life, an objective relationship to the things and the events and a worship of divine being able to appear freely in daily dimensions of the ordinary life. In this state of mind, it created in 1967 an occupational class of music rock'n'roll, Liars, gods and beggars (lying, gods and beggars), which gives concerts as well to ÉtatsUnis in Europe.
Because it underlines at which point it is important to practise and to be given up with the will of God, Mr. Lee gained the international reputation to be a Master able to denounce to perfection the myth of New Age, if popular in Occident, which praises the easy and fast illumination. According to him, it does not have any value contrary with this radical and absolute spiritual transformation of the individual who does not become possible that when he lives in a context of reference to God and either in a context of reference to oneself.
Since 1980, the Community of Hohm extended beyond the ashram from Arizona in a certain number of centers in the United States, in Germany, in India and France, in Anglès-on-the Anglin, close to Poitiers.

Each year, Mr. Lee goes to Europe, with the invitation of his German disciples and those of Yvan Amar and Arnaud Desjardins.

Just wanted to share my experience about our meetings with the Yogi.

In 1992, along with my brother and a couple of friends, we went to Tiruvannamalai. At that time, YOGIji was still living in the small house close to the temple. We had taken a letter from one of his close disciples which allowed us to meet him and spend almost an hour with him at his home. What amazed me then was some of the questions HE asked us about our future plans (I had my I20 and was waiting for my eng results) and it was almost as if HE knew the answers before hand. HE smoked infront of us, but I swear we did not smell the tobacco from the smoke. I had heard about this from my uncle (another staunch disciple of the YOGIji), but I was still suprised.

In 1994, my first return trip to India, we spent an evening in Tiruvannamalai visiting all the great Ashrams there. We woke up early in the morning and walked around the hill and then visited YOGIji. He had by then moved into the bigger ashram and had a lot more visitors. We did RamNamam Japa and then stayed there for lunch. It was very peaceful. But it was not as personal as the first visit where we got to talk to him for a while.

My parents moved out of Madras and I haven't had a chance to visit the ashramam again.

Few lines written by arrogant son to his Mad Father

Listen, You old Liar
tell Your son the truth this time
I am begging you
to devour me completely
to turn this wild and resistant Fool
into nothing and No-one
but still I make conditions;
So I demand this as well -
Once you have made me
the son You truly deserve
do not recreate me again
separate and wounded as before
I am warning You
Yogi Ramsuratkumar
I will not take it lightly
if you ever allow me to leave You.

I first time I came to you
I was curious.
Honor and respect were given
out of propriety and pride.
The second time I came to you,
I was secretly hopeful.
Honor and respect now paid
out of yearning and pride.
The thrid time I will come to You
let me not be honorable or respectful
but swallow my ugly pride
Let me weep before You with Madness
....dispel lee's ignorance and his arrogance.

Lee's dedication and submission to his spiritual guru is unconditional and forcing.
Given below few lines that Lee has wrote to his self realization master

Yogi Ramsuratkumar prepared Lee to take up his position since 1983. One of the great poornima day (Giri Valam or deepam festival) celebration at Tiruvannamalai, Yogi Ramsuratkumar requested Lee occupy his seat and thrown himself in front of him sitting with other devotees on floor. Like Master wanting to handover his cosmic work to his best student and taking leave.

We all thinking is a recognition to Lee from his spiritual father! ....but that recognition, is not that easy. Often rejected/chasten by his spiritual father Yogi Ramsuratkumar! Lee continued his submission, obedience and his ever lasting loving for more than 10 years. Even though he is living many thousands miles away from where his master is, he maintained the strong connection with his father through prayers and poems.

Long Live Lee and his father’s work

Reading his biograhy, it does show his extreme dedication to what he belived in.
But nowhere do I see any connection to the spirit of Baul, as defined by the lives of so many Baul's. Why did he consider himself as the western Baul - if his philosophies does not reflect the baul philosohy. Thoug of course it very superficial of me to ask such a question, since I hard know of the depths of his thoughts or pholosophy.

Just wondering about some geneology......from my father's notes, I read that Louis Lozowick's mother was my great grandfather's sister. Great grandfather was Isaac Boriskin.

also from Kiev, also immigrated to US, with many descendents. Any interest in verifying this?
